Documentary series: Mozambique – Private Sector Development

This series of 4 documentaries was produced for the Swiss Development Agency (SDC) in Mozambique. The Private Sector Development is one of the most recent pillars of development cooperation between Switzerland and Mozambique.Raising income and creating employment opportunities helps the population in rural areas to actively participate in trade and establish sustainable market linkages.

The goal of this series of 4 films is to demonstrate the impact of the projects HortiSempre, InovAgro and MBFM/INFINA through individual beneficiary success stories, as well as to explain how the Market System Development approach is implemented and adapted to the Mozambican context.

Raimundo Saraiva is an example entrepreneur. In 5 years he increased the size of his arable area from 1.5 to 10 hectar. With the help of the market linkages facilitated by Inovagro Project, he now has a permanent buyer for his products and possibilities of buying good quality inputs for his farm.

 

Before graduating from INFINA Academy for inclusive finances, Elsa had a small business raising and selling chicken. Now she is the assistant supervisor at the Microbank FIDES, responsible for a team of 40 colleagues. Maria is one of the clients of the bank. FIDES is her first bank and the loans she received have helped her to expand her small business and to improve her life quality. Her dream is to be a successful business woman.

 

Zainabo Abdala is a member of an agricultural women’s association. Before being introduced to the harvesting techniques she learned from the HortiSempre project, she used to spend a lot of time in her field but produced very little. In the last year everything changed. She became more independent, increased her production and her children can now go to school.
